Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes is on stand-by to miss the club's pre-season tour of North America so he can conclude a £13million deal for Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen.
Allen has already held positive talks with Stoke manager Mark Hughes after the club's bid was accepted by Liverpool but personal terms still have to be sorted out.
Allen's former club Swansea City are also believed to be considering an 11th hour move for the Wales Euro 2016 star but their new American owners want to find a buyer for their Korean midfielder Ki Sung-yeung first.
